Inconel 625 is a corrosion and oxidation resistant nickel alloy with high strength and excellent resistance to water corrosion. Its excellent strength and toughness are due to the addition of niobium, which together with molybdenum strengthens the alloy's matrix. Alloy 625 has excellent fatigue strength and stress corrosion cracking resistance to chloride ions. This nickel alloy has excellent weldability and is often used for welding AL-6XN. This alloy resists a wide range of severe corrosive environments, especially pitting and crevice corrosion. Some typical applications for Inconel 625 include chemical processing, aerospace and marine engineering, pollution control equipment and nuclear reactors.

Inconel 625 was developed in the 1960s to make a material that could be used in steam pipes. Some modifications have been made to its original composition to make it more creep resistant and weldable. Because of this, the use of Inconel 625 has expanded into a wide range of industries, such as the chemical processing industry, and the manufacture of high pressure equipment such as pumps and valves in marine and nuclear applications.

Inconel Alloy 625 Tubing Highlights

Alloy 625, UNS N06625 Also known as Inconel 625 is a nickel-chromium alloy with high strength, excellent machinability and excellent corrosion resistance. Operating temperature ranges from cryogenic to 980°C (1800°F). Alloy 625, UNS N06625, derives its strength from the solid solution strengthening effect of molybdenum and niobium on its nickel-chromium matrix.

Precipitation hardening is therefore not required. This combination of elements also provides excellent resistance to a variety of unusually severe corrosive environments as well as high temperature effects such as oxidation and carburization.
